Many of us are currently confronted with the requirement to start encrypting our data. I have discussed several times in this newsletter the need we all have to encrypt out backup tapes. Those of us that have looked for information on 'How' to do encryption have been left pretty much to reading articles and documents written by one software vendor or another. There have been a few great high level articles in System iNEWS magazine, but no comprehensive unbiased source of information has been available for System i encryption, until now.
A few weeks ago, IBM put the final wraps on the great new Redbook IBM "System i Security: Protecting i5/OS Data with Encryption." The Redbook begins with a kind of 'Encryption for Dummies' section and proceeds on to planning for data encryption and implementing data encryption.
Key Management is discussed in great detail, and the step-by-step implementation scenarios are well thought out. It is by far the most comprehensive journal on the topic to date. And surprising to me, it is not just a book on encryption available for IBM's BRMS, but a rather unbiased coverage by the authors.
At a whopping 300+ pages, it is an invaluable resource for your library.
